Sound symbolism is the idea that certain vocal sounds carry meaning in and of themselves. This is a project on visualisation of information that explores my own real grapheme-colour synesthesia;. I have created a system that transfers my mother tongues (Basque, Spanish and English) into patterns made of shapes and colours, a comparative experiment in phonetics, linguistics and identity.
The second part of the Sound Symbolism project explores a fictional sound-colour synesthesia. My audiovisual piece is a synesthetic ritual experience that intends to break the western mind-body split for a couple of minutes. The experience is activated by sound and color frequency correspondence, an externally presented stimuli, like hypnosis. The sound Art has been produced in collaboration with Hervé Carpentier de Changy.
